1,2: The difference is that the particle doesn't appear alone in
nature. To separate everything else out DOES take a lot of energy, and that is
what is released when the particle decays.
3: The Higgs particle doesn't
decay when combined with other particles. That is my understanding of why the
other particles exhibit mass. But you can't measure/detect the higgs when it is
combined... So you use a lot of energy to isolate it. Once it it IS alone, it
doesn't last long.
And for your last, It isn't illogical, just
counter-intuitive. All that means is that your view of the universe is still
limited. Things that appear illogical just means you don't understand the
The reason to carry out experiments is to verify whether
the mathematics is properly mapping/describing the universe.
This is Newtons understanding of gravity...
Mathematically proper.... But it predicts that objects can travel faster than
light just by falling together... If reality agreed, then the galaxy wouldn't
exist (part of it would fly apart, other parts would collapse). As it is, things
are holding together pretty well, so the mathematical model isn't quite right...
