Menus and navigation exist already, it's called a "file system".

As for a multimedia presentation of the files, those animated menus are among
the most irritating things anyone ever thought of for DVDs, especially when
they're tagged with the "no skip" and "no ff" controls
(which are also on that list).

Your analog to a stack of photographs is bad, btw. We don't have a stack of
photographs, we already have the album of photographs, but we can re-order them
by a whole bunch of different fields in less than a second depending on what
we're looking for.

Give me the data, save the presentation. You want to do a multimedia
presentation of files, write a Nautilus extension or something, and get Ubuntu
to use it. Keep it off my lawn!
