What is not mentioned in the transcript is that there are two reporters.
There is the court's own reporter, the one taking this official transcript; then
there was another who was jointly hired by Novell & Microsoft to do their
own transcript. (That let them have a full record every afternoon of the day's
events - wouldn't *we* have loved to get hold of that!)
Anyway, it was this second reporter who had left her phone turned on. And left
the phone in her coat pocket. And left her coat on the bench over against the
wall... and as you are probably aware, when you grab a coat in a hurry, you
always reach into the wrong pocket first. Then when you turn it around, it goes
all the way around and you get the same wrong pocket again.
I've noticed that there's a lot of places where *all* of the emotion gets
dropped out of the transcript. Not just the fact that it doesn't look like much
when written without exclamation points; there are actually pieces missing. I
don't think their lack really damages the transcript, because they don't have to
do with the evidence, or the law, but it sure seems to clean up the behavior of
the principals.
This spot, however, looks like the court's reporter is gleefully skewering the
hire-in reporter. Just a touch of professional territoriality, perhaps?[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
