What we have here is a
desire to revert to the royal patent to
provide monopoly power to a single
entity. The US patent system was not intended
to do that.
It may be well to consider that the patent office
grants patents inappropriately. But to believe that patents were not to provide
a monopoly ("exclusive rights") is to not understand patents, US or otherwise.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Upon what do you base this ridiculous assertion?
The purpose of the U.S. Patent system is to promote the Progress of Science and
useful Arts, <b>by securing for limited Times to Authors and Inventors the
<u>exclusive</u> Right to their respective Writings and
Discoveries<b>.
