Global cooling* is just as likely as global warming. The bottom line is the
same though. We are woefully unprepared.
*Due to reduced solar activity. The same cause may result in more earthquakes
and volcanoes.

One way or the other, things will eventually change for the worse and we should
be ready.

>What if the actual affect of GLOBAL WARMING is a displacement of MASS on the
earth's crust causing an increase in the shifting of the earth's Tectonic Plates
The melting of the ice caps would cause a rising of the earth's crust where the
ice was, but that rise would be on the order of millimetres per year, and would
last for at least several centuries, if not millennia.
Note in passing that the Great Lakes of North America are still bouncing back
from the last Ice Age.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

We're still coming out of a mini ice age (the late medieval period).
Google "Greenland Ice Cores".
The planet's been hotter than this very recently. It's also been far colder
than this recently. ("Recently" defined as: "within the last
10,000 years")
Modern tech has nothing to do with it, unless you want to claim the Romans had
"modern tech".
If someone wants to throw out some info that casts doubt on the ice core
findings, please do, I'm genuinely interested.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Wow. So much to argue with. I shall choose something relatively OT and then
make a general observation of an alternative to all your arguments.
Look at the aftermath of the Hundred Years War and you will see that Hansel and
Gretel could have come from considerably after the Dark Ages, or have reached
its final form more or less within living memory of the Grimm brothers'
informants. Until Bismark Germany was quite poor.
As for the rest look at the Chaos constant and what it does -- it is part of an
equation which measures the rate of change in non-linear evolving systems.
While as a constant it doesn't change weather is one of the systems it was
discovered in, and frankly, there can be little question that human activity has
affected some of the inputs to weather, and what we SHOULD be looking for -- and
are certainly getting -- is increased variability in our weather patterns.
While we are seeing a global warming trend in the short run it is this increased
chaos which is doing as most of the recent damage. Quite frankly, from that
perspective, your predictions are simplistic.

Yes. As the ice melts, the water mass will
want to redistribute itself due to gravity, but
expect increased volcanism due to conservation
of Angular Momentum.
I.E., something has to give, and the earth will
want to slow down rotational speed near the equator
due to the extra water mass, and the poles
will have less mass, especially the south pole.
So, more leap seconds will be needed for starters.
But, the south pole is the place to watch since that
actually is a land mass and has lots of volcanoes.
Let's just hope this activity holds off until the
Samsung-Apple lawsuit is resolved.
