Unsafe Gun Safes Can Be Opened By A Three-Year-Old
Authored by: Anonymous on Friday, August 03 2012 @ 06:12 PM EDT
When my children were small, I had a lot of things around the house that were
more dangerous than an unloaded gun: saws, chisels, sledge and tack hammers,
climbable bookshelves....

Oh, the gun was _loaded_?

So it could be used quickly...then locked away to it couldn't be gotten to
quickly...then put on the floor so only a three-year-old could get to it
quickly....

I understand perfectly. No problem. Two words. Darwin Awards.

Sounds like if they tried to sell them over here, there's no way shops would
touch them with a bargepole!

A quick word by an aggrieved customer with Trading Standards and the shop would
be throwing their stock in the trash faster than you could say "Jack
Robinson"!

Cheers,
Wol

Unsafe Gun Safes Can Be Opened By A Three-Year-Old

I read the article. Then I did some reasearch by checking the web sites for
Cabela's, Gander Mountain and Bass Pro Shops.

My reasarch showed that the brands/models listed are the lowest cost units in
their field. Most are under $200.

As to one involved in the death of the Sherrif's deputi's child mentioned in the
article, if you read all the way to the end, the article mentions that the
Sherrif's department in question bought the units for $39 a piece.

These dangerous gun safes are cheap junk and you don't even need to read the
article to determine that.

The only things this article proves are that you get what you pay for and when
you are buying a gun safe is not the time to save money.

Unsafe Gun Safes Can Be Opened By A Three-Year-Old

There was a good article on this last week on Bruce Schneier's site. Reading
the directions, the "safe" in question was supposed to be bolted down
- preventing the trivial opening by dropping it with enough force to retract the
bolt against the spring.

Give them the book, they put salt on them and eat 'em. Sounds about right.
