"Take no prisoners"
Authored by: stegu on Sunday, August 12 2012 @ 07:05 PM EDT
Not being a native English speaker, I am not really
comfortable with pointing this out, but the phrase
"Google takes no prisoners" gives me associations quite
different from its literal meaning. "Take no prisoners!"
is an "evil guy" war movie battle cry (perhaps based
on reality, I wouldn't know) implying that the attacking
force should ruthlessly execute anyone who wishes to
surrender, and leave no enemies alive.

That argument fails in a lot of ways, eg by the same logic: it's easy to install
linux/libreoffice etc so MS isn't a monopoly. Yeah that's sort of true, but...

Basically, it assumes said alternative search engines are easily substituted
products, which isn't necessarily true. Have you ever tried to actually find
something with bing? And succeeded?
