Americans want an instant result after polls close, and the only way to
accurately provide it on the scale of votes cast in the USA is to use a machine
to tabulate results. Which then casts doubt on the actual result because
machines can be gamed.
Most other countries I've lived in (especially in Africa), everyone waits for
several days, up to a week, to find out the result.
Its the old aphorism about cheap, fast, or quality/accurate -- choose two. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
