I totally agree.
He is far less likely to be extradited to the US from Sweden than he is from the
UK.
No one who was squeaky clean would be holed up in the Ecuadorian embassy all
this time. Ecuador has a human rights and freedom of speech record that no
Wikileaks person should want to be seen dead dealing with.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

While it's clear that the US want him, and (because capital punishment is not
possible in extraction cases even from the UK) throw him into a hole, and throw
away the key.
But what nobody has explained to me is how it comes that he thinks that the UK
is a safer place for him than Sweden?
I mean the UK is the only European country that likes to play the pet dog and it
extradites it's own citizens. (Which many, many places in Europe do not,
actually that tiny item was a big hindrance for the European arrest order.)
So I somehow cannot envision how Sweden would be more likely to extradite him
over the pond.
OTOH, Sweden happens to have many very curious laws concerning sex, Sweden did
decide to not prosecute/investigate the case in the first place, Sweden did not
ask the British Police to interview him (which would be the more normal pathway,
OTOH, the laws he is supposed to have violated would be rather foreign in
concept. (It's not about consensual sex or not as such, it's about condoms.)
So while I have to wonder why the UK? (Perhaps because he happened to be there
when Sweden decided that they'd like to take his statement.) OTOH, I have to
wonder about the Swedish authorities and their behaviour here, they didn't
actually try to de-escalate anything.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
