Will they still be around in current format then? The omens do not seem to be
good for them.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

MS's idea was to have a consistent codebase across all
devices, basically. Consistent interface, consistent
experience. Not an unreasonable concept, and wonderful if it
can work. However, it is exactly that - a concept.
They were wrong from the very start to even try this.
This is like saying "an 18 wheel truck is a capable multiple
purpose device and therefore good in all situations". The
answer is: no, that's absolutely not correct. The windows 8
interface is okay in certain scenarios only: tablet and
phones. Not even touch-enabled laptops, or screens. Had they
not differentiated and aimed to give everything a windows 7
look, it might have been closer to "ok" to just add some
features for tablet. Instead they went all in, intentionally
blindly. It's good for companies to take huge risks, but
usually you want to make sure the risk is worth it.
Subtle Hint: Why do you think touchscreen laptops for
windows 8 are months behind on being released to MS
partners? (I unfortunately know about this firsthand)
Answer: because the backlash is so strong they're afraid
that if they get out to the major partners now the backlash
will be even stronger, in combination with horrible reviews
thus far. They want the hate and backlash to die down,
politics style.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
