Journalism is not just about report what you know to be
correct. It's also about pointing out when somebody
publishes incorrect information, particularly if mainstream
media have a tendency to rely on that publisher.
Remember, people make important decisions about what they
read in the media - they have a right to have the correct
information. That is what journalistic integrity and ethics
is all about. Personally, I think it is shameful not only on
the part of Florian to not reveal the true source of his
information, but also the mainstream media for not digging
deeper. And this is where Groklaw et. al. perform an
important duty - pointing out to mainstream media that they
might be being led up the garden path.
Who knows what the true extent of Florian's interests are.
Is he being fed information from somebody who has a vested
interest in this misinformation being published? Is he
treading a very carefully laid out plan constructed in
partnership with his clients? Is he a pawn in their game?
Whatever the truth, is is vital that somebody points out
that what is published on FOSSPatents is far from the whole
picture. That's what Groklaw does.

calris74 is absolutely right! Propagandists need their feet held to the fire at
every opportunity. Some jernalists base their careers on parroting press
releases from advertisers. It's a lazy, CYA approach. Their audience is lazy
as well. With neither group checking the facts, propagandists proliferate. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
