Oh, if you start counting deaths caused by non-US politicians, then the numbers
get truly large, and tobacco begins to look insignificant: truly, when you're in
front of a firing squad, you can ask for a last cigarette without concerns of

Forget wars,
Look at USSR deaths in the 1920-30s and China in the cultural revolution.
But then you gotta add back in the deaths on tobacco farms over history too ...
However if you only count the time since the tobacco companies actually knew
they were killing people (approx the early 1950s) the consistent annual death
toll from smoking kicks the politicians out of sight.
