Judge Koh Grants HTC's Redactions; Denies Samsung's Motion to File Supplement Expert Declaration~pj

See, that's where I disagree. Samsung doesn't deserve your
support (neither does Apple). Samsung is abusing their FRAND
patents in a much worse way... but then again, they are a
CORPORATION. This is what they do.

People love them some "thermonuclear war" quotes. But Apple
is a rational company. They don't want people "ripping off"
the look and feel of their products and their brand. Because
that's where they get their money. For all that people bitch
about the "Apple tax", people (rightly or wrongly) pay a
premium for the "Apple experience", and Apple goes to the
mattresses to defend it.

All of this is the usual posturing to get in the best
possible place prior to an eventual comprehensive deal. In
the long term, two things can be said-

1. Google (and the manufacturers) have engaged in much worse
behavior regarding their patents, in a much more detrimental
way, for the long term. I don't blame them, in a certain
sense, because they have a weak hand, patent wise. But
viewed holistically, their actions are more damaging (hence
the antitrust).

2. Samsung leveraged Google's OS, and Apple's look and feel,
to achieve their current position. Good for them! Maybe
they'll pay for it (in part), maybe not. But they're not the
good guys. See how they're treating Android in five years
and get back to me. Corporations, they love them some money!

And a final point- a lot about the patent system sucks. But
as you'll see, this will be a lot of chest thumping, and
then a cross-licensing deal. This is just maneuvering to get
in the best position for it. Enjoy the products- don't root
for the corporations.
