$45 tablets already for sale, but who would buy
Authored by: UncleVom on Tuesday, December 25 2012 @ 07:53 PM EST
I have also bought a fair number of tools, various pieces of electronics and a
multitude of cables and adapters from various dealers/dropshippers from China
over the past 5 years.

A you say there there is a lot of low quality, poorly made stuff out there and I
can think of some junk I have bought, but mostly I have been happy with my
purchases.

I normally don't buy anything without doing research, checking reviews etc.
online, but sometimes due to the dynamic nature of the market I will buy relying
only on my gut feel. If my "spidey senses" are tingling I will not
pull the trigger on the purchase.

When it comes to tablets I have been tempted by a few recently, but using the
Google Nexus offerings as a yardstick they IMO tend to fall short. A Nexus 7
with better USB connectivity and a micro SD slot is what I really would want.

I do have a Rikomagic USB Android 4.1 stick on its way apparently slowed by the
HK Post Christmas rush.

It will hopefully replace the Raspberry PI in a cigar box "media
center" that almost worked "good enough" most of the time. The
early production Raspberry Pi which itself has suckled on several fronts will
get repurposed in an
automotive project I have in mind.

Inexpensive is good, cheap is cheap and too cheap is usually junk.
