As already noted by Jesse, it tells criminals which houses
to burgle if they are in the market for a handgun.
Further, it illustrates the dangers of gun registration.
Once registered, no matter how innocent sounding the reason,
no matter how well intentioned the original reason, some
fool may go ahead and do something as ridiculous as this with

If you own a firearm for home defense, wouldn't it be better
if potential criminals knew it so they could look for easier
targets?
Isn't it better to keep the criminal completely outside the
house by letting him or her know the house is a hard target?
At least some gun owners think so, because they advertise
their gun ownership with signs like "This property protected
by Smith and Wesson."
And so does the city of Kennesaw, GA, where every head of
household is required to own a gun and ammunition for it.
