Perhaps the solution is to ban locking. If it's necessary for contract phones,
then unlocking, at no charge, should be mandatory when the contract is paid
out.

zon-and-publishers-over-e-books/
This case will be dismissed really quickly.
the kindle does not limit you to reading things in Amazon's proprietary format,
it also supports mobi, html, and a few others.
It doesn't support e-pub, but it's trivial (and free) to convert books from one
format to the other.
There are and have been several 'small' publishers (O'Reilly and Baen to name
two) that have been selling e-books directly to Kindle users for years as well
as selling to users of other e-readers (as you can see at
http://www.baenebooks.com/p-297-oath-of-swords.aspx you can get
Ebookwise/Rocket, Mobi/Palm/Kindle, EPUB/Nook/Stanza, Microsoft Reader, Sony
Digital Reader, RTF Formats)
now, I do dislike the fact that Amazon won't sell the books in any other format
than their own, and only to users of Kindle hardware or software, but if you go
after Amazon for this, you also have to go after Apple and B&N. Everyone who
both sells books and a book reader only sells the books to their own readers. At
least Amazon and B&N sell you apps to let you read the books on some other
devices.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Just wondering why Google does not go progressive and have a
portable device, that can be used in direct sunlight? AND
contact Pixel Qi for a screen, even if optional as a SKU
item.
AND, as well, save a ton of battery power with Mary Lou's
tech in that department? Still, not one has gotten the
importance of the OLPC project, and how it can apply to
other than 3rd world location uses. The sun is bright
everywhere, and we all need our batteries to last longer and
charge faster.
