how could apple use less?
Authored by: Anonymous on Wednesday, March 13 2013 @ 11:09 PM EDT
I recently got a galaxy tab too, and to get online all I needed was my Wifi
password.
Then for the apps I needed a google account (already connected to the playstore
earlier, perhaps that is a separate count?
While samsung offers a seperate acount, it works fine without it so far.
And mobile devices probably need a carrier account, but doesn't apple need that
too?
(Now all I need is a way to access local shares, and i'll be on my local cloud
(fog?) :-D

But unlike I-phones, none of those accounts required a real name, home adress or
banking information, or installation of Itunes to activate functions.

Whaddaya mean "log in"?
Authored by: Anonymous on Thursday, March 14 2013 @ 02:11 AM EDT
My Android device demanded my gmail login [my iPod demanded
my iTunes login]. After that I could setup (or login to existing)
accounts for QQ (Facebook lookalike), woStore (Apps), woBooks,
Huawei's appstore, IMchannel, (tencent)weibo, that's only six,
all optional really.

Accuweather, youku, baidu, sina news feed don't need accounts,
but they work nicer with a bit of settings tweaking. I s'pose it
depends what you mean by "using the device fully".
I had to download apps from the store to do all I wanted
on both Android and iOS.

Still, I agree with him on the updates. I had to root my Android
device to get an OS update six months before my carrier offered.

Apple's Schiller & Apple distortion field
Authored by: Anonymous on Thursday, March 14 2013 @ 08:10 AM EDT
"Schiller said fragmentation, or the host of customized versions of Android in the marketplace, poses a problem for consumers."

Pure nonsense! What poses a problem for consumers are IPhone's lack of BT file transfer, no access to the file system, no SD card and Apple Maps of course :-)

Apple's Schiller blasts Android, Samsung on Galaxy's eve
Authored by: Anonymous on Thursday, March 14 2013 @ 08:16 AM EDT
Who cares? Many like Android, many like A$. That's just
the way it is. Good healthy competition. Or, perhaps he
has nothing positive to say about A$ in that regard.

he's crossed a line
Authored by: mcinsand on Thursday, March 14 2013 @ 12:00 PM EDT
This is no longer distortion/innuendo; his words are actual lies. It's one
thing to try to tarnish a competitor or to try to put them in a dimmer light,
but he has clearly jumped over the line into being dishonest.

straight up denial by apple
Authored by: designerfx on Thursday, March 14 2013 @ 12:06 PM EDT
apple has to log in to stuff too. how do you suppose you set
up anything? all OS's and services are identical. log in to
service to grant access. You can include any past and
current operating system and that will still apply.

Apple's Schiller blasts Android, Samsung on Galaxy's eve
Authored by: JamesK on Thursday, March 14 2013 @ 12:16 PM EDT
I suppose an iPhone would automagically configure itself for my email account.
When I got my Nexus One, I configured it for my GMail account and also my email
account with my ISP. I also enabled my account at the local library, my ID on
Groklaw and other sites. Will iPhone do all those without my help?

Apple's Schiller anti-Android campaign
Authored by: Anonymous on Thursday, March 14 2013 @ 01:18 PM EDT
It wasn't even the first time he trashed Android. Remember that "Be safe out there" message he posted on Twitter?

Apple's Schiller blasts Android, Samsung on Galaxy's eve
Authored by: DannyB on Thursday, March 14 2013 @ 01:32 PM EDT
If the out of the box experience of an Android phone is so bad, then Apple
shouldn't have anything to worry about, right?

Question: does the out of the box experience of using an Apple device include
having to use Apple Maps?

I use 2 accounts...
Authored by: Anonymous on Thursday, March 14 2013 @ 01:57 PM EDT
1. Google account (duh), which gives me access to nearly all of the stuff an
iPhone can do except for Apple maps so I guess I am missing part of the user
experience.
2. Amazon app store, which I wouldn't have to log into if I had the iPhone,
right?

I have an Android device - and Zero accounts
Authored by: Anonymous on Thursday, March 14 2013 @ 02:17 PM EDT

And it works without any kind of account!

Granted: I should set up at least the basic password to unlock the device - it just hasn't seemed to me to be any kind of real concern.

I should add that if I go to a store with a free wifi connection I can quite comfortably browse the web without any kind of account at all!

In other news, S(c)hiller (probably) blasts google single sign-in
Authored by: Anonymous on Friday, March 15 2013 @ 04:09 AM EDT
"It's a privacy nightmare, having Google
services unified and sharing data. Will
nobody think of our profit margins?"

I don't know that this particular goon said
that, and can't easily check currently, but
I'd say the odds of him or another apple
"Shiller" having said that our something
similar are rather high.
