Herbalife lawsuits
Authored by: mpellatt on Thursday, March 14 2013 @ 02:33 AM EDT
Whenever Herbalife pops up, I can't resist sharing a little anecdote about online job sites.

I used to be registered at jobsite.com. Generally not too bad. Then a worryingly large number of "work-from-home" opportunities started appearing in the lists offered to me. Quite seriously, I got concerned that the appeal of £2000 a week (cough) might lead me to weaken. No amount of tweaking my job interests would stop them. So I wrote to jobsite asking them (a little more politely) to stop promoting these scumbags offering their Ponzi scheme.

Their response ?? Herbalife is a wonderful system, and the person writing to me peronally knew people making good money out of it, it was a genuine opportunity, so they weren't going to stop.

I can but conclude that jobsite must be part of the scam in taking "distributors"' money. And, for me, they went the way of monster.com, never to be used again.

Google yanks ad-blocker apps from Google Play
Authored by: Anonymous on Thursday, March 14 2013 @ 12:47 PM EDT

Article link.

Sadly, this is the prime problem I have with Android that has me "on the fence" with regards whether or not I have Android devices.

To be clear on my particular problem:

Google controls the apps installed (at this time) and Google can arbitrarily, via that control, decide what I can and can not have on my Android loaded device.
This is based on my understanding that one can not currently acquire applications from a source outside of Google Android Apps without rooting one's device.

What I'm hoping for is an FLOSS Android ecosystem to exist along with the official Android product lines. Where one can acquire the source of a particular GPL'd application and compile it for one's own Android device.

My second issue is that Google's Android Apps store requires a login. If I'm installing GPL'd applications - there should be absolutely zero requirement for me to have an account. This issue is a minor issue as I can always (once I've taken the time to properly root my device) get the source elsewhere.

Hitler Finds Out that Google Reader Is Being Shut Down, with help from Netapp
Authored by: cjk fossman on Thursday, March 14 2013 @ 02:19 PM EDT

clicky. Also language warning.

But here, for me, was the interesting part. I got 2 (two!) tiny popups at the bottom of the video, both from Netapp offering to help me with Oracle.

Remember us wondering why Netapp chimed in on Oracle v Google? I think this tells us the answer.
