My only concern: Software IS Abstract
Authored by: PolR on Friday, March 15 2013 @ 07:03 PM EDT
Part of it is we didn't expect this sort of things to be well received at the
USPTO, so when writing the draft versions I tried not to push this idea.

Another part of it is that patent attorneys admitted to practice in the patent
bar have a computer related degree when they practice patent law in software.
They are not outside of the field. When I wrote the drafts I had this kind of
audience in mind.

If we want to make the argument clear to people outside the field we need to
write a completely different document. It may contain the same ideas, but it
would be much easier to rewrite from scratch than trying to fiddle with this
one. A document made for experts cannot be retrofitted to the needs of laymen.
