The DMCA conference streaming seems to use Silverlight

Well, the excuse is that they can outsource it and save money. Same has happened
here. But the use of multiple operating system and hardware platforms is too
established and entrenched here for someone just to give an order from the top
that we will switch everything over to Big Company.

But there are a lot of smaller institutions, less oriented toward research and
engineering. Administrators at those places often think it is absolutely the
best thing to sell out to Big Company and to tell everyone who works there what
to do. And it seems that the administrators in those smaller places can get away
with it. I have seen it at other small places. It could be that U. Santa Cruz is
in this category, too.
