Speculation, speculation... There is no facts to those
figures just a guesstimate based on patent licensing deals.
My guess is that for the big players Microsoft don't make a
penny and they actually hide a "you buy our patent rights
for $50million a year and we give you $50million of Windows
Licensing".
My reasoning, look at the agreement that Barnes and Noble
was so ready to accept after fighting tooth and nail and
having a seemingly strong case. Look also at the fact that
most of their targets and settlements are with Windows
partners as well (Such as HTC).
If I was right it may be a smart move for MS as it locks the
signups into a Windows Mobile Licencing deal and if Windows
Mobile doesn't sell, then they are still guaranteed the
money. For the defendant they get out of a costly lawsuit
with no unbudgeted costs.
Just depends on the detail of the agreement, you sell your
