Hybridization, and Backcrossing, and Macroevolution? Oh, my?

The physical evidence for this is convincing.
It may be convincing to the author, but not to everybody.

There is a massive takedown of this conjecture at Pharyngula.

Pharyn gula is a rough-and-tumble venue, where the language may not be suitable for the faint of heart. It is akin to the style used in private, among scientists, but not usually in public. Neither Professor Myers nor the commenters hold back on their scorn for pseudo-science. Perhaps the mildest comment on the cited paper is Myers': "Besides, this new idea is hilarious."

The author of the cited paper is identified as one who holds the contrafactual belief that evolution is driven by conjectural hybridization between species rather than by the numerous mechanisms that have been actually observed.

Just try to imagine the mechanics of the situation. First the male boar or pig has to climb the tree where the female chimpanzee fled upon first sighting the lecherous boar. It only gets more ridiculous from there on...

You don't think she cooperated willingly, I hope. I suppose there is always someone who will say she led him on.

The American physician and missionary Thomas Staughton Savage and naturalist Jeffries Wyman first described the western gorilla (they called it Troglodytes gorilla) in 1847 from specimens obtained in Liberia.

The name was derived from Greek Γόριλλαι (Gorillai), meaning "tribe of hairy women", described by Hanno the Navigator, a Carthaginian navigator and possible visitor (circa 480 BC) to the area that later became Sierra Leone.
