Do I believe the question ridiculous? Most certainly, in my humble opinion
to ask:
Should taking the well known process of "enter formula X into a
calculator" and apply a specific formula be patentable?
Absolutely, that is
ridiculous because such a situation should not be patentable.
But then,
what does that say about the Patent Lawyer that actually views the exact
question I asked as acceptable, as a patentable process?
The Question I
asked is really no different then:
Should math be patentable?
Because
you really are patenting the formula. And you did respond that you believed
math should be patentable when you said:
Do I think Maxell and
Einstein should have been able to patent methods of calculating the various
values the respective equations they discovered
determine?
Of course.
