This has to be a case of using weasel words....
Oracle: Is it
necessary to use the Sun API to run the Java
programming
language?
Google: Objection, calls for expert testimony.
Judge
to Ellison: Do you know the answer to the question, from your own
personal
knowledge?
Ellison: Yes.
Judge: Overruled.
Ellison
cites the European company Spring, which produced their own version of
Java.
Now the Spring framework by SpringSource is available here
Doing a
quick check you can see the following:
grep -r 'import java.' * |
grep src | wc -l
13444
So there's 13,444 files that
are in the path src that contain 'import java.' ....
Note well that this is
the *JAVA* API and the question was about the *SUN*
API....
There is no
need to import from the *SUN* API for java programs...
Now I got curious
here and decided to see whether the Spring Framework
uses the *SUN* API at
all....
grep -r
'import com.sun.' * | grep src | wc -l
40
Here's a
link to the
pastebin of the filelist and the imports.... actually Spring does
use the *SUN*
API....
I guess Larry Ellison should not have been an expert
witness for this and
didn't have sufficient personal knowledge after all to
answer the question - i.e.
Google's objection was indeed valid....
