I'll definitely give you "faster", but I find MySQL easier to use.
PostgreSQL is clearly the better of the two, but until it pays attention to the
initial learning curve surprises[1], MySQL will still get the lion's share of
the things like web apps - and that means it will remain dominant.
[1] I'm thinking about niceties like the fact that a PostgreSQL server will
refuse even to look at the files from an earlier version. So if you've just
upgraded your machine, and you got a new version of Pg in the process, you now
cannot even see if there's anything you want in the old DB. You have to rebuild
from source on the new platform and either remove the newer version (to be
reinstalled later), or run the two concurrently. Or you can choose MySQL...
