Yes, and I have 2 cars both have the wiper control in the same place on the
steering wheel. Of course one is up for on and the other is down for on. So if
there is some specification it seems to have stopped at the wiper control goes

The US government couldn't impose standards on the
automobile
companies, but
they wrote standards for cars that the GSA
and
military would buy. Soon all
automatic shift cars had the
gearshift lever on the right side of the steering
wheel,
with
Ford's PRNDSL pattern. Why Ford not GM? I think GM
did
not
have a standard across product lines and Ford did, so that
was the "most
popular" pattern.
The Feds eventually added more standard details, like
window
