Macs More Likely to Carry Windows Malware Than Mac Malware, Study Finds
Authored by: Anonymous on Tuesday, April 24 2012 @ 05:07 PM EDT
Our corporate IT dept has for years insisted that Macs have
installed and kept up to date an "approved" A/V app,
because of just this problem, that Macs may be carriers
of Windows malware. Their problem since the demise of the
hardly lamented Nortons has been to find an effective product.

Macs More Likely to Carry Windows Malware Than Mac Malware, Study Finds

hubris over malware is a big problem for most computer users (and to some
degree, almost all users), though I can imagine Mac users are more likely to
have a bad case of this issue. However, the current so-called anti-malware
products for the Mac is a joke and does not significantly "protect"
anyone (same could be argued for other platforms :p). So what are the users
supposed to do?

Indeed: "Computer Security, is, an oxymoron, period."

What is needed is for humans to take care of their own security. Sadly, I think
it is a futile effort to get computer users to take real responsibility for
their own computer usage. Even with better software, people just do not care
enough to stay safe. They want the flexibility but not the responsibility. It's
a widespread problem that I do not see any real solution. This will/has end up
being part of the excuse to put more restrictions on computing devices of all
kinds (not that it will actually eliminate malware). In my opinion, losing our
freedom is way too big a price to pay for this, but I'm not sure if any of us
will really be able to prevent this from happening.
