X Window?
Authored by: Wol on Wednesday, April 25 2012 @ 01:16 PM EDT
Unlikely, I think. There is a massive paradigm shift in the linux gui coming
down the tracks.

X is going to be replaced by Wayland. It's pretty much inevitable. If you don't
think so, ask Keith Packard (the guy who wrote large chunks of XFree-86, and who
forked it to create Xorg, and who has downgraded X to "legacy").

X is on life support.

Cheers,
Wol

We're closer than you might think... iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and 3 support display
mirroring to HDMI. iPhone 4 supports TV OUT to HDMI (so apps have to support it
specially).

So the capability is there in low-power silicon; Apple's GPU isn't special, they
just licensed a commodity one (PowerVR SGX543MP4, for example).

I haven't tried; I wonder if I can have a USB keyboard and HDMI out at the same
time... hmmm... that sounds silly, will try tonight. (Don't have the HDMI
breakout adapter at work.)

So it's probably more like, "wire up the HDMI port that's already on the
SoC and hand out root."

Add an ethernet port (or two).
Running ip over USB is way slower than ethernet.
But keep the usb for the power of course.

You are being MICROattacked, from various angles, in a SOFT manner.
