I suppose a ruling that API's are copyrightable could help them do this. They can't take away the GPL'd code, that will always be available to everyone, unless they try to shut down forks with patents somehow.

However, if their own proprietary extensions become prevalent, then this case could set a precedent that prevents other people from making open source code that is compatible with them.

Oracle is also doing the open core thing with their OEL Linux distro. Two
examples are the kernel splice and the DTrace are both payware now. Why people
pay for the worst experience in the Linux world is beyond me.

But it is pretty rich of Monty to be crying foul when the whole reason MySQL is
in the position it is in now is him selling out to get rich quick. Now he wants
to scare every one into his new product so he call sell out again some where
down the road. Monty's street cred is right around zero.
