There's another thing to be compatible with: someone actually hit on it with
"robots" in a different thread.
Parsing editors and IDEs and the like.
Programs like Eclipse and can work with reasonably arbitrary Java class
libraries--but they have to be Java.
They can do more if you use standard Java classes. Exceptions are declared...
but how do you know which package the collection classes are in? You have to
know. You have to know where String is. You have to know where the network
sockets classes are, file I/O, buffers. And so on.
Re-using the relevant part of the Java class library API means re-using rapid
development tools, in addition to re-using programmer's brains.
