Software industry reclaims open standards debate
Authored by: Anonymous on Friday, May 04 2012 @ 02:41 AM EDT
"If you read the discussions about video codecs for HTML5, this is pretty much Apple's position. Apple said we cannot ship these codecs because we may get our licences to Mpeg withdrawn and that will effect our ability to sell iPods that play video,"
So he is saying that Apple claims that they cannot ship any other codec due to the MPEG related patent license contracts they have with others? Does any of this sound like it might be illegal if true?

Yahoo's so-called CEO and lying on a resume
Authored by: Anonymous on Friday, May 04 2012 @ 10:10 AM EDT
I say "so called" because I think Mr. Thompson will not be
around for that long.

But there's a deeper message here, which was captured in the
News Pick. That is, if you (Thompson) want popular support
when you have transgressed, don't sue half of Silicon valley
beforehand.

Software patents and trolling are already controversial;
Thompson launches a barrage of lawsuits every couple of
weeks. That does not make him a sympathetic character to a
lot of people in the tech business who think that software
patents are inimical to the technology world.

Then throw in some personal peccadillos (like resume lying)
and you have an unliked person displaying personal
vulnerabilities. Like blood in the water and a chark
circling nearby.

If nothing else, this shows me that Scott Thompson is *not*
a strategic thinker - he is a reactive one. And on a
corporate level, Yahoo needs strategy and direction, not
some guy who can't tell the truth.

Sic transit gloria mundi

Judge Alsup on what to do if jury is deadlocked
Authored by: Anonymous on Friday, May 04 2012 @ 12:03 PM EDT

Imagine the look on MS' face at such a suggestion applied to a single Jury member with doubts about the effect of MS' anti-competitive damage in the Novel case!
