Dear Dell:
The right question, and the one I face as a classical C/Perl developer, is, how
do I map my simple concept into an equally simple program without getting stuck
in a straightjacket.
That is, for example, suppose I want to set up a site like Groklaw...or any of a
hundred simpler projects, like hunting through a database-like spreadsheet.
What is the correct interface?
This has nothing to do with whether my laptop is stylish or if I'm on Android,
iOS, or Palm....it's how do I come up with something as elegant and fundamental
as C, which has lasted 30 years of my programming career....[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

- A $999 laptop does not leave the house.
Divide the price by four
to get some interest.
- Keep the CPU cheap and low power. Any real CPU
work
will be done by a remote machine.
- Putting a mirror finish on the
screen makes it
unpleasant to use in an office, and useless outdoors.
Pixel Qi
have solved this problem already.
- Forget the software. The first thing
I do with
a new laptop is wipe it and install from a source I
trust.
Sales: Ultrabooks are not selling. Fiddle with the
details and hope to generate some interest.
Marketing: Investigate what
a market segment wants
and design something to match.
Perhaps one day
Dell will learn the difference between
sales and marketing. Don't hold your
breath.
