Folks can be heavily fined and/or do time for such things. UK Courts have

If the mother was at table and the subject of the trial came up, she should have
asked that the subject be changed. If she couldn't, or if the family refused,
then she should have gotten up and left the table.
That's your duty
as a juror. Had the prosecution known of the conversation you just related,
they would have been fully justified in moving for a mistrial and starting over.
The judge would also have been justified in penalizing the mother with jail
time. Heavens, discussing a civil case is bad enough, but you're talking about
a murder trial. It's entirely possible that that table conversation allowed a
murderer to walk free. That is not acceptable, and not legal.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
