Another important date is when Sun GPL'd Java (not for this trial though). If
Sun earlier, had seen necessity of a GPL Java or at least a community Java to
preserve their vision of a Run on any device (operating system) program and
Google had that available they would probably have said to the phone makers
"you can't have an individual stack; You have to use only one Android and
add your individuality on top as your application".
I believe Android would have gone GPL rather than being able to taken private
by each individual phone maker. This whole mess would have been avoided and Java
would be less fragmented because like Linus said GPL forks disappear because the
best rises to the top and that lone best one is what every one is going to use.
