Rim has incumbent corporates paying for blackberry messenger
Nokia has many patents around base station technology (not just handsets, it is
what made Ericsson(pure handset player) more appealing to Sony)
Both of these will slide into insignificance over the next few years as belts
tighten and technology leaves them standing behind the curve.
Both a bit like Microsoft, it's going to be a good few years before you can
finally purge that slightly dirty feeling.
I do feel more sorry for RIM; being forced to pay NTP for invalid patents was a
mortal wound and a massive injustice.
But then the US doesn't seem to care too much about non-US companies over much
as long as a US company is extracting the imperial tax.

Agreed. RIM looks better right now. However I'm still sceptical if we know
enough as to which will fall first.
Nokia seem to have burned too much of their resources to be able to compete head
on even if they use Android now. If they are going to turn things around,
expectations will have to be a lot lower, and new good leadership will be
needed. Additionally, who knows what Microsoft will do to them. Doesn't look
good or easy either way.
RIM needs to get "lucky" and somehow increase their market share :p.
RIM still have the tech they need (unlike Nokia, who seem to have burned
theirs). It's yet to be seen if the recent management changes are enough. It's a
brutal market out there.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
