1) I have never heard of a software patent that was not obviously ridiculous.
So it's not just "some of the software patents are no good", it's that
there aren't any good ones.
2) I strongly doubt that there's any social benefit to ANY software patents. I
will grant, however, the obvious, that some individuals benefit from them. This
doesn't make them a net social benefit.
3) I am amenable to patents on particular devices that do particular things in
specified particular ways. I'm not at all amenable to someone saying "So
if you program a computer with a different program, it's a different
machine." That would be plain silly, if it weren't so damaging. And when
ostensibly sensible people assert something like that, malice is what occurs to
