"Complexity" and "complication" are synonyms.
It can be difficult arriving at a correct answer to a complex problem, but that
does not impact the existence of such an answer.
As an example of the difference, when it comes to many legal questions, it seems
to me that there is a lot of analysis of the exact wording of legislation. It is
right that they do not second guess the authors of the legislation, but they are
in effect often applying the words in situations that the authors had not
considered. In such a scenario, there are no doubt plenty of opinions, but
nothing one could pin down as being the correct answer.
I am not saying that the legal process should try for absolutes - it can't. What
I am saying is that it often finds itself dealing with questions that require a
different mindset but fails to recognise that fact and adjust accordingly. When
the only tool you have is a hammer, every job looks like a nail.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
