I am OP...my intentions wasn't to disparage RMS in the
least. Apologies if it was taken that way.

My point was just that he has a very radical view of
information when compared to most of our society. While his
passion has no doubt given us great things (GNU, GPL, etc.),
it is that same fanaticism which becomes a road block to get
some of his ideas into the mainstream.

This is true of many (wo)men...Rod Paul comes to mind. What
a lot of people love about him is the very thing which
prevents him from getting more mainstream acceptance. By
softening some views and compromising on a few other, he
could likely garner more mainstream support, but the cost
would end up being that he would no longer be the Ron Paul
that his current supporters so love.
