Hi
It took me a while to parse the url but I got there in the
end. While the article and replies were no great surprise
what occurred to me as I was reading it was that the meme
that if you partner with M$ you're dead seems to be becoming
more prevalent(and a certain furniture mover might think if
you don't you're dead too). The Nokia fiasco may be the
first time the general public actually realise this.
So I got to thinking who had partnered with M$ in the past
and survived and really, apart from the AV lot, there was
only one name that came to mind. IBM. I have heard that they
have a long memory. And yes they're not saints either but
there's bad guys and BAD guys.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

There are billboards here in Xining touting a device called BestConnect,
affilated with ChinaMobile claiming to run Android, Brew, and
WindowsMobile. There are shops all over China labelled "Apple Shop"
with authentic looking dress, and a few (as far as I can tell) genuine Apple
devices amongst obvious fake dross. There are many obvious iPhone
ripoffs in the hands of people who look like they should not afford the
ticket price of a real iPhone, which is the same here as worldwide. There
are many devices here that look like iPhones, I never got hands on to tell.
Sorry no hard figures, I'm just a tecchie tourist watching the locals and
snooping in shops.
