First, that's an obviousness issue, not a subject matter
issue.
Second, Kepler did not have machine vision. So, if my
process is:
1. use a camera to identify targets
2. calculate distance using depth field analysis
3. calculate target aim
4. measure wind, etc.
5. recalculate angle
That's a new use of a machine and a process - even if I
accept that the structure is no different with or without
the software.
Indeed, someone above said that currently humans aim and
computers tell them info on wind, etc. Well, that implies
that a fully automated self-aiming cannon might be novel.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

And it's called control theory, and if you've ever studied it, it is hard
intellectual work.
Also, the computers involved (WW II) were originally analog computers. It was
1960s (at least) before digital computers were small enough to be used that
way.
We should begin by recognising
"A device for aiming a footgun, comprising:
A digital computer
Mechanical means for pointing the footgun
Feedback means for determining the relationship between where the gun points and
where it is desired to point"
Contains ZERO novelty, especially not the digital computer part.
