Neither "Embrace" nor "Extend", just
"Extinguish".
MS didn't "embrace" or "extend" Nokia in any way
I can think of. They had Elop change the company's
product lineup by force, abruptly disband all
Linux-based development teams and drive the company
straight into the ground. It's more like "pawn,
poison, perish": Elop is a pawn who was told to
poison Nokia to make it perish. I still don't
understand for what reason.
Or, did MS honestly think that buying Nokia,
shooting it through the head, gutting it completely
in public and then dressing up in a suit badly sewn
from the skin of Nokia's carcass would make
existing customers stay or new customers line up?

You expressed the concept a mere two hours before I did! :)
