Since the word you were trying to clarify was 'idealistic', you should have used
the definition of idealistic, not a different word.
idealistic: of or pertaining to idealism or idealists.
idealism: 1. the cherishing or pursuit of high or noble principles, purposes,
goals, etc.
idealists: 1. a person who cherishes or pursues high or noble principles,
purposes, goals, etc. Synonyms: optimist, perfectionist, reformer, visionary,
utopianist. Antonyms: pragmatist, skeptic, cynic.
 
If you are going to use 'ideal', you should use the main definition: a
