that "keyboard" cover or something like it
would turn either
iPad or Surface into a usable and
desirable device.
I have
read that keyboard won't work on your lap - it's
gotta be on a table. You have
been able to get portable
keyboards for your devices ages. Check around - there
must
be one that meets your needs for the iPad2.
As far as the kick
stand goes, that arrangement looks
like an accident waiting to happen. Imagine
reaching across
your table to grab a book or something. You can count on the
Surface getting knocked over at some point, even knocked to
the floor. You can
count on the kick stand, only 3 mm thick
as it is, to get a least bent enough
out of shape so that it
never closes properly again, even if it doesn't break
right
off. However, it will be nice while it lasts. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

The problem isn't necessarily the hardware... but the sticker shock.
It will be too expensive for what it does.
As a tech demonstration, it is fine.
As a product though, it won't sell.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

My wife got one of the Logitech keyboard/covers which in addition to providing a
Mac type keyboard also provides a channel along the top of the keyboard for
supporting the iPad for lap use.
She can actually do real work on the thing, having a free app to connect to work
servers for a local government body.
All the iPad has to do is compete favorable with the Windows RT Surface tablet
and it likely does without Microsoft Cloud capture or broad product
compatibility which Metro can't deliver.
You could buy an iPad and an aftermarket case/keyboard for what Microsoft wants
for the RT tablet.

Of course, keyboard covers for the iPad are readily available
- I know several people who have them. And someone mentions
the Asus Transformer. So MS has, once again, "invented" what
already exists, but badly.

etc)

Someone else made the point, but I thought it was plausible & interesting:
the MS brand has a poor reputation with consumers. Where people have a choice,
they will choose something that isn't coming from MS.
The point was made relative to the lack of success of MS phones, where the
software and features are otherwise competitive, but if it's true, it would mean
that their tablet is going to have a big handicap right from the start.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
