Part of it is also cost shifting. Most medical care is
needed in the last year of life - yet that is normally when
most people cannot pay for it, because their income is
reduced. When they are younger and healthier, they can
afford it, but don't need it.

All you are saying is that you personally are
not a free loader. That's good. But studies
indicate you are not the norm.

Plus you said you've found a way to pay for
broken arms, etc., the small stuff. But
what if you get terminal cancer? It will be
very expensive no matter how you approach
the problem, and one thing is for sure, you'll
need pain medication.

But you'll die. Then you won't be able to
pay for anything, and no one else will be
responsible for it but the rest of us, who
will pay higher insurance premiums because
you died owing a lot of money to the doctors
and hospitals/hospices that treated you, because
they don't just let you die in the gutter in
unbearable pain.

So perhaps you should take a look at some of
the studies, before you use yourself as anecdotal
evidence of something it does not demonstrate.
