There are other contributors, such as
- doctor
salaries
- unnecessary tests and procedures
- over-investment in
expensive equipment
- our self-indulgent lifestyle. At one time the USA
had the
tallest population on earth. Now we have the most obese.
1. Doctor's salaries, while high, are not the biggest part of
the issue - e.g. a minor factor.
2. Unnecessary tests and procedures are
usually due to malpractice insurance and doctor's trying to protect themselves.
For that we need to solve the lawsuit issue that is an issue for more than
health care. That's a whole other topic on its own and one that needs sorely
addressed.
3. Over-investment in expensive equipment is hard not to do -
it's the hospital's bet that they will need that equipment for something at some
critical time. That's a management/risk issue, and probably not as big a factor
as you think.
4. The life-style issue is a big one, and one that will take
generations to resolve. The only way to speed up that process is to get people
to take more responsibility (not less) for their decisions - and the hippy
generation is one that we can thank for that present dilemma.
If
there's nothing in the estate, a claim against the estate doesn't do much good.
If there are multiple claims that exceed the value of the estate, creditors only
get a share of what's left.
True. But that's something that has
already been worked out, and affects far more than simply health care. Are you
going to do the same thing for utility bills, car payments,
etc?
Health Insurance companies fought tooth and nail against the
affordable health care act. I'm guessing you could add up their contributions to
Obama's 2012 campaign on a might tiny piece of paper
Because they
didn't want to give anything up. They wanted the additional revenue stream
without the other requirements so it made sense for them to fight it.
And yes, I've been with and without insurance. And yes, I've paid medical
bills without going through insurance - they even charged me less since I was
paying up front.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
