Yes, but the point I am making is simple.
In experiments where they MEASURE metabolism, and control (by observation) what
people are doing, they find that the "energy burn at rest" is
consistent.
And when they compare people with "different metabolisms" they find
that they have movement profiles. One person will spend the night in bed
immobile, the other will (while totally fast asleep) toss and turn. And guess
what - the person who tosses and turns will claim to have a "fast
metabolism".
I'm well aware that - left to my own devices - I would have a relatively active
lifestyle. Except I don't think it's active, it's what I would do without
thinking. I'm forced to think about it, however, because my wife's illness is
very restrictive - take that away and my weight would probably plumment without
me making any conscious changes in my lifestyle whatsoever.
