Except that you've just fallen into EXACTLY the trap I keep fulminating
against.
There is a STRONG CORRELATION between obesity and diabetes. That does NOT mean
that obesity causes diabetes. In fact, I would argue that obesity and diabetes
are *typically* caused by the self-same thing.
But ask yourself a question (to which I don't know the answer myself). How many
Sumo Wrestlers are diabetic?
Personally (and I got my M.Sc. in part for this research) I believe that both
obesity and diabetes are caused by snacking on high sugar foods. (That includes,
as others have pointed out, processed starchy foods like bread. fries, and in
the US especially corn syrup.)
(And there is plenty of evidence that sugar substitutes are just as bad.)
I think a previous post of mine must have been deleted, but just like you can be
a heavy drinker and avoid a lot of the bad health effects by abstaining for a
while at regular intervals, I also believe that you can be heavy eater (and
heavily obese) but avoid a lot of the harmful effects by abstaining from food
for a while at regular intervals. Fasting has been a NORMAL part of human
behaviour for a very long time, although I'll also admit it's often been
involuntary.
Cheers,
