means accepting that your freedom may restrict someone else's.
THAT is the elephant in the room many Americans seem unable to accept. Your
freedom to drive without a crash help may deprive a woman of her husband. Your
freedom to drive while drunk may deprive another family of their breadwinner, or
son, or daughter.
And your decision to go without insurance may deprive another of the ability to
afford insurance.
I know drawing the line is difficult, but it seems a peculiarly American trait
to refuse to surrender "freedoms" that self-destruct if you try to
exercise them. In Europe we accept that we have a duty of care, and on the whole
things work out well.

Individuals are not Sovereign, States are Sovereign. So clearly the Freedom
afforded individuals is different than Sovereignty.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Individual sovereignty is an odd notion, the individual as a nation state. Do
you owe fealty to yourself, as one does a nation? Natural born citizen's
probably think little of that issue, but naturalized one's know they have to
swear fealty to become a citizen.
The U.S. Constitution is our ultimate safety net.
