My wife is on SS, she receives automatically part A coverage, but there is no
cost for that. If you WANT part B (which covers the "regular" medical
insurance stuff) then you do have to pay for it, but you don't HAVE to buy B,
unless you want part D, which is the prescription drug coverage. D does require
that you also have B.
In most states, you can get "medigap" insurance that covers
additionally to the partB coverage, and replaces your part B coverage under
medicare with private insurance, but again, you don't HAVE to do this either.
However, you can get far better coverage, in the states I have looked at, for no
more than you would pay for "vanilla" part B coverage, and you get,
generally, much better benefits out of it. So the interesting question is: why
is a PRIVATE entity able to pay more than the federal government, when faced
with the same funds? I'm sure it has nothing at all whatsoever to do with my
previous comments about how costs are higher BECAUSE OF government
interference.
Ronald Reagan said it wonderfully. "The government is not the solution to
our problems. The government IS the problem."[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
