The comments from ACTA's advocates show an alarming lack
of respect for the
citizens of this planet. Of all the
arguments one can make about the various
provisions and
clauses, the most powerful argument against ACTA is also the
simplest to articulate, and that is: nothing good can
ever come from an
agreement made behind closed doors,
without broad input, discussion, and
agreement with all
stakeholders.
Whatever were they thinking?
Whether the aims of the
accord are good, bad, or indifferent, it is
anti-democratic.
There can never be any justification to impose legislation
on
peoples without their input on such purely commercial
matters in the civil
realm.
The people responsible for the following quotes should be
ashamed of themselves for their lack of respect for the
citizens of this
planet. They are monsters for putting their
own interests above the general
good to the extent that they
would pervert Democracy to achieve their own
selfish ends.
Their comments reflect a complete lack of contriteness.
However, key players in the creative
industries expressed
frustration at the decision.
We expect that Acta will move ahead without
the EU”
Alan Drewsen
International Trademark
Association
"Acta is an important tool for promoting European jobs and
intellectual property," said Anne Bergman-Tahon, director of
the Federation of
European Publishers.
"Unfortunately the treaty got off on the wrong foot
in
the parliament, and the real and significant merits of the
treaty did not
prevail."
Alan Drewsen, executive director of the International
Trademark Association, warned that Europe could now be left
behind when it
comes to protecting intellectual property.
"Europe could have seized
the chance to support an
important treaty that improved intellectual property
standards internationally," he said.
"We expect that Acta will move
ahead without the EU,
which is a significant loss for the 27 member
states."
